The Countdown until Public Power Week has begun
Next month Cleveland Public Power will join more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 47 million Americans in taking time out to celebrate the success of public power and to salute our customers.
In effort to engage and educate our community on the use of renewable energy sources, Cleveland Public Power (CPP) will host the 1st Annual Solar Sprint. This is a miniature solar powered car race for students in grades 3-8. The students will form teams with a minimum of two members and a maximum of eight, and collaborate on the design and construction of a solar car they will enter into the Solar Spring on Saturday, October 11th during the Annual Public Power Week Open House.
Shelley M. Shockley, marketing manager, for CPP explained, “This is an opportunity for us to engage the community, particularly our youth, in good fun that also demonstrates the use of solar power. We actually got the idea from our counterparts in Memphis and we’re optimistically anticipating a true Indian summer with sun and warm temperatures so that this event will go off without a hitch.”
An application and overview of the Solar Sprint are included in this post. We are currently recruiting for teams, so if you have children with an interest in the sciences or who like to build things, please encourage them to join the CPP Solar Sprint. If you are unable to print the Registration Form pictured above, please complete the form below and we will send you an application.
